Abstract
1,8-cineole is widely used in oral care daily chemicals such as toothpaste and mouthwash due to its cooling and camphor odor properties. Its market demand is huge, and currently it mainly comes from eucalyptus oil. The exploration of its synthesis has always been of great concern to people. The chemical synthesis of 1,8-cineole was focused; the main synthesis mechanism and process of 1,8-cineole were analyzed and its raw materials and process characteristics were explored. The biosynthesis of 1,8-cineole was also concentrated, the main synthesis pathways and recent research progress were briefly discussed from the perspectives of plant synthesis and other biosynthesis; some ideas and methods for biosynthesis were summarized. The research progress on the artificial chemical synthesis and biosynthesis of 1,8-cineole were reviewed and the feasible pathways for its efficient synthesis was discussed, which can provide important support for the development of synthesis and application of 1,8-cineole in the related fields and industries.
